Pigeon Fest  Fri 14 May 2010
Illustration for 'De Gazet', a biannual newspaper by 'Volkskunde Vlaanderen', the Flemish organisation for popular culture. This year's first issue is about the Intangible Heritage in Flanders. Pigeon racing was (and still is) very popular amongst the Flemish people, hence the pigeons, doing all kinds of cultural stuff being covered in the newspaper...

Wilbur  Sun 02 May 2010
Here are some sketches from my graduation project, "Wilbur".

Wilbur is a tale of hybris, inspired by the myth of Icarus. Wilbur is the oldest angel and he is tired of heaven. He learns about Earth for the first time, when he sees Icarus falling through the sky. They start a conversation, that gets abruptly interrupted, but from that moment on Wilbur knows that the one thing he wants to do, is to go to Earth.

I will post some finished illustrations later.

'Wie heeft hier met verf lopen smijten?'  Sun 18 Apr 2010
I was asked by Ted Van Lieshout to do two illustrations for a poetry anthology for children, called 'Wie heeft hier met verf lopen smijten?' published by Querido. I received two spreads, each with five poems on them, and I could choose what I was going to illustrate (either one poem, or the five poems as a whole, or just pick one sentence, or a general mood illustration,...). They are both based on one particular poem, but the one with the house is a bit more open for interpretation.
The book will be published in August and has poems of authors like Toon Tellegen, Johanna Kruit, Bart Moeyaert and many others. Alongside the reputable names, there's a group of young and upcoming poets and illustrators accompanying them.
The outside of the book is in full colour, while the body will be in black-and-white + a light blue color. Here are the full colour versions of my illustrations, because I put the effort in it, and I want them to be seen too :-) When I have it, I'll post some photographs of the printed duocolor result.
Oh yeah, the translation of the title is something like 'Who has been throwing with paint?', but better.

Trains!  Wed 07 Apr 2010
These are two illustrations for 'Time To B', a corporate magazine by the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS, or SNCB in French). I was totally free to do whatever I wanted, as long as it had to do with trains, railroads, stations, etc... Basically, it had to be the view of an 'artist' on trains, how he experiences 'the train'. There's a story behind these illustrations Everybody loves
The magazine will be printed in July, so I will upload a photo of it when it's in my mailbox.
